Early Life

Carol has Scottish, Welsh, German, English, and other ancestors. As a child model under the name Carolyn Lee, she was introduced to the entertainment industry at a very young age. She began her career as a model and later developed an interest in acting when she was 15 years old. During the same year, she appeared on the cover of “LIFE” magazine and went by the stage name Carol Lynley.

She began her career on Broadway in the contentious production of “Blue Denim,” which would later be remade in Hollywood with Carol reprising her role. The following year, she starred in “The Pleasure Seekers,” a film based on John H. Secondarim’s novel “Coins in the Fountain,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for Scoring of Music – Adaptation or Treatment.

In 1965, she has cast in “Bunny Lake Is Missing,” a psychological thriller based on Merriam Model’s novel of the same name. Despite being dismissed as unworthy by critics upon its initial release, it received positive reviews from high-profile critics such as Andrew Sarris. Carol’s career continued with films such as “The Cardinal” and “The Poseidon Adventure,” which featured an ensemble cast of five Academy Award winners, including Jack Albertson and Gene Hackman, and in which she performed the Oscar-winning song “The Morning After.”

Carol also appeared in television shows such as “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” and “Fantasy Island,”.
