Charles Barkley

Do you know Who is Charles Barkley?

Charles Wade Barkley, a 55-year-old African-American retired professional basketball player (power forward), was born on February 20, 1963, under the sign of Pisces in Leeds, Alabama, United States. Charles is also a sports analyst. He also went by the names “Chuck,” “Sir Charles,” and “The Round Mound of Rebound.” He is best known for his 16-year NBA career, during which he made a name for himself as one of the best power forwards in American basketball history. Since beginning his frequently successful NBA career in 1984, he has enjoyed several successes both as a player and an analyst.

Charles Barkley: Early Life and Family

Charles’ parents, whose names and occupations are unknown, raised him as an apparent only child in the city of his birth. At Leeds High School in his hometown, where he was initially turned down for a spot on the varsity team and instead listed as a reserve due to his height and weight of 5ft 10ins (1.78m) and 220lbs, he was already determined to become a great player. His interest in basketball began at a very young age (100kg).

Education Details

Later, Barkley made rapid progress over the summer, and when he returned to school at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 meters), he was given the starting spot on the varsity team as a senior. He contributed to his team’s 26-3 record and averaged 19.1 points and 17.9 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he outscored Bobby Lee Hurt, the most highly recruited player in Alabama, with 26 points. Charles matriculated in 1981 and was recruited by Auburn University’s head coach Sonny Smith after seeing him play. He enrolled there as a result.

Professional Career

At Auburn University, Barkley played collegiate basketball for three seasons. Although he struggled to maintain a healthy weight, he was an outstanding sportsman and led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in rebounding each of the three years. He compensated for his short stature and extra weight on the court with a variety of show-stopping movements, which helped him establish himself as a top player with ideal body proportions.

He eventually acquired the moniker “The Round Mound of Rebound” due to his tendency of not passing the ball after grabbing a rebound but rather dribbling to the other end of the court and slamming it home. Despite being shorter than the typical center, he played the position during his time in college. In the end, he was named to Auburn University’s All-Century team. His career field goal percentage of 62.6% still stands as the school record. He averaged 14.8 points per game, 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 blocks over the three years. He competed in the NCAA Tournament in 1984 while still a student, finishing with 23 points per game on 80% field goal shooting, along with 17 rebounds, 14 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Profession: 76ers, Suns, and Rockets

Charles abandoned school in his last year to enter the 1984 NBA Draft, hence he never truly completed college. The Philadelphia 76ers selected him with the fifth overall pick in the first round, two picks after the Chicago Bulls selected the (soon to be) illustrious Michael Jordan. Charles received coaching from the team’s coach on how to control his weight and prepare for a game appropriately. He earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team as a result of his regular season averages of 14.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

All three of his best seasons came during his stint with the 76ers, including his career-high PPG of 28.3 in the 1987–88 campaign and his career-high RPG of 14.6 in the 1986–87 campaign. He transferred to the Phoenix Suns on July 17, 1992, rather than the Los Angeles Lakers, as the Philadelphia 76ers withdrew out of the trade. Charles surpassed his previous career high of 5.1 assists per game in the 1992–1993 season when he also helped the Suns earn the greatest NBA record of 62–20. Charles Barkleystayed there up until the 1996–1997 campaign before switching to the Houston Rockets. He grabbed a career-high 33 rebounds in his first game with this team. He has been retired and working as an analyst for “Inside the NBA” since the end of the 1999–2000 season.
