Early years

Colleen Vandeweghe was born on December 6, 1991, in New York, New York, to Olympic swimmer Tauna Vandeweghe and Robert Mullarkey. Her grandmother was Miss America in 1952, and her uncles were famous players, so she comes from a family of champions.

Her brother, Beau, raised her and encouraged her to play tennis. Coco is of White ethnicity and is a citizen of the United States. She began playing racket at the age of eleven.

Career

Coco made her professional debut at the Acura Classic in 2006, but she was defeated. She did, however, win the Junior US Open championship in 2008. Later, she was invited to compete in the JB Group Classic by the Hong Kong Tennis Patrons’ Association. She earned a wildcard to qualify for the US Open in 2009 after climbing into the top 200 on the WTA rankings and qualifying for the Mercury Insurance Open.

Vandeweghe won her first WTA title in 2014 and finished the year in 39th place. She had a lucky year in 2015 because she won almost every match she played. At the US Open, Coco made her first Grand Slam semifinals in doubles with Anna-Lena Grönefeld.

In 2016, she won her first WTA doubles title and her second WTA singles title. Coco reached the grand slam semifinals in 2017 and was seeded 20th at the US Open. She is also a member of the 2017 Hopman Cup team for the United States. Coco competed in the World TeamTennis pro league for seven seasons. In 2009 and 2012, she was a member of the Sacramento Capitals, the Boston Lobsters in 2010 and 2011, and the Orange County Breakers in 2013.
