Craig Sheffer

Do you know Who is Craig Sheffer?

Craig Sheffer is an American actor and producer, who became famous for his roles in “A River Runs through It” and “One Tree Hill.”

Craig Sheffer: Early Life and Family

He was born on April 23, 1960, in York, Pennsylvania, to an Anna-named mother who worked in a nursing home and a father who was a jail guard and a screenwriter. He was reared in Windsor Park, and his parents had always pushed him and his brother to pursue their goals and become whatever they set their minds to.

Mark Wayne “Hogan” Sheffer, his brother, was a soap opera writer who had won an Emmy. He served as the show’s lead writer for As the World Turns on CBS from 2000 to 2005, Days of Our Lives on NBC from 2006 to 2008, and The Young and the Restless on CBS (2008-2013). Hogan passed away in 2019 at the age of 61.

Education Details

After graduating from York Suburban High School, Craig spent two years at East Stroudsburg State University before leaving due to a knee injury and the realization that pursuing a career in football was pointless.

Professional Career

When Craig lost his job and fiancée after moving to New York, things were difficult for him. For three months, he had to sleep under the Grand Central Terminal marble staircase and subsisted on dinners from the Unification Church. When he could resale newspapers, he would spend the night at the Young Men’s Christian Association on a warm bed rather than on top of his suitcase outside in case it was stolen.

It took him a year to find a representative, but once he did, he made his television debut on “One Life to Live” in 1982 as Ian Hayden and his film debut as Frankie in “Voyage of the Rock Aliens” in 1984. Following the completion of the film, he was chosen to play Alan in the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning Broadway production “Torch Song Trilogy.”

In the 1985 film “That was then…this is now,” he co-starred with Emilio Estevez. Despite receiving poor reviews from critics, the film did quite well at the box office, grossing more than $8.5 million against a $3.5 million production budget. He appeared in “Some Kind of Wonderful,” one of the popular teen movies of the year 1987, which was critiqued for being rather unrealistic but was nonetheless enjoyable.

More prosperous movies

Over the nearly four decades that he has been acting on the big screen, Craig has produced more than 60 films in a variety of genres, usually in leading but also in supporting roles.

In 1992, Robert Redford produced and directed the drama “A River Runs Through It,” which was based on Norman Maclean’s 1976 autobiography. Redford called Sheffer in for an audition for a little part. Impressed, he wanted to cast him but wasn’t sure which part to give him, so he kept calling him back until he decided to give him the starring role of Norman; Brad Pitt played the role of Paul, his younger brother. It earned more than $40 million in the US and received favorable reviews.

He was a member of the sci-fi mystery movie “Fire in the Sky” in 1993, which earned close to $20 million on a budget of $15 million and received favorable reviews from reviewers. It was inspired by the book “The Walton Story,” which detailed the author Travis Walton’s purported alien abduction experience.

In the 1997 HBO war drama television film “Miss Evers’ Boys,” which starred Laurence Fishburne as Caleb Humphries, Alfre Woodard as Nurse Evers, and Joe Morton as Dr. Brodus, Sheffer performed the part of Dr. Douglas. It was based on a genuine account of cruel clinical research that the government conducted on willing but uninformed African-American boys with and without syphilis in Tuskegee, Alabama, between 1932 and 1972.

Television

From 1982 through 2013, Craig appeared in more than a dozen different television series.

In the two seasons (1986–1988) of the animated television program “Teen Wolf,” which had 21 episodes, he provided the voice for the character Mick McAllister. In the 1996 crime thriller miniseries “A Season of Purgatory,” starring Patrick Dempsey and Sherilyn Fenn and based on Dominick Dunne’s #1 New York Times bestseller novel of the same name, he was cast as Constant Bradley.

He appeared in 58 of the 187 episodes of the drama series “One Tree Hill,” which aired for nine seasons (2003–2012) and starred him in the role of Keith Scott.

Lucas and Nathan Scott, two brothers who lived in the fictional North Carolina town of Tree Hill, initially dominated the series. Although he acknowledged that playing a good character would not provide many challenges, he added that it was enjoyable to play and return home at the end of the day because you don’t need to bring anything.

He appeared in episode six of Steven Spielberg’s “Into the West” miniseries in 2005, which received 16 Emmy nominations and two wins. In addition, he had guest appearances in several television shows, including “Psych” and “Criminal Minds” in 2010 and “The Mentalist” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2012.

Other pieces

Sheffer was the producer of “Instant Karma” (1990), the executive producer of Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes’ “Demolition Man” (1993), and the associate producer of Steven Seagal’s “Code of Honor” (2016).

In 2008, he developed the script, directed, and produced the comedy straight-to-video film “American Crude.”

When they attended the 2004 premiere of “The Cinderella Story,” Craig and Willow were spotted together.

He wed Leigh Taylor-Young in 2003, but the two later got divorced. She is 15 years older than he is, and they had previously collaborated when he was chosen to play Brian Chadway, her son, in the 1983 television series “The Hamptons.” Leigh made her film debut in the romantic comedy “I Love You, Alice B. Toklas” in 1968 after making her television debut in “Peyton Place” in 1966.

For this performance, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. She earned an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on CBS’ “Picket Fences” as Mayor Rachel Harris. Taylor-Young was also nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She appeared in more than 70 films and TV shows.
