Daniel Edward Aykroyd is a Canadian comedian, actor, playwright, producer, and musician who rose to prominence as a member of Saturday Night Live’s Not Ready for Prime Time Players from 1975 to 1979.
Early childhood development and education
Dan Aykroyd was born in 1952 to Samuel Cuthbert Peter Hugh Aykroyd and Lorraine Helene in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His father worked as a civil engineer and served as a policy advisor to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, while his mother worked as a secretary.
Aykroyd grew up in a Catholic family. He wanted to be a priest until he was 17 years old. He attended St. Plus X High School and St. Patrick’s High School. Dan earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminology from Carleton University. For numerous years, he controlled the Toronto speakeasy Club 505. He’s also worked as a comedian in several nightclubs across Canada in the past.
His father had English, Dutch, Irish, French, and Scottish ancestors, while his mother is French-Canadian. Peter Aykroyd, Aykroyd’s older brother, is also a comedic actor. Dan was born with webbed toes, which were later shown in the short film Don’t Look Back in Anger, which aired on Saturday Night Live.
Heterochromia is a condition in which one eye is brown and the other is blue. Aykroyd was born with both brown and blue eyes. Aykroyd’s musical career progressed as a result of his frequent visits to Ottawa’s Le Hibou club.
Career
At the age of 17, Aykroyd was cast in a sketch comedy series called The Hart and Leone Terrific Hour, where he worked alongside Lorne Michaels and a number of other artists. Dan was a member of the Second City comedy team in Chicago and Toronto in 1973. Dan Aykroyd rose to prominence as a writer for Saturday Night Live before joining the cast before the show’s premiere.
He was the youngest member of the original group, known as The Not Ready for Prime Time Players, and he appeared on the show from 1975 until 1979. Everyone praised Aykroyd’s writing ability, claiming him to be a gifted impersonator who has introduced unusual ideas, sensitivity, and youth into the program. As a result of his abilities, he became the only member of Saturday Night Live who could be a Python. For one season, Aykroyd and Jane Curtin co-hosted the Weekend Update. He authored and starred in Ghostbusters: The Video Game in 2009. In 2010, he voiced Yogi Bear in an animated feature and appeared as a guest star on Family Guy.
Private life
Carrie Fisher, a Star Wars actress, was Dan Aykroyd’s first girlfriend. In 1980, he proposed to her on the set of The Blues Brothers, and they were married. When Carrie reunited with her ex-boyfriend, Paul Simon, their engagement came to an end.
In 1983, Aykroyd married Donna Dixon, an actress. His wife starred alongside him in films such as The Couch Trip and Spies Like Us. They met on the set of Doctor Detroit, when they worked together for the first time. Danielle, Stella, and Belle are their three daughters. Aykroyd’s permanent residency is in the United States, despite the fact that he is a Canadian citizen. In May 2017, there was a report that Dan Aykroyd had died, but it was later shown to be false news.
