Early Life

David’s father is the vice president of Fleet Investment Advisors, a subsidiary of FleetBoston Financial in Providence, and his mother is a clinical social worker at the Bristol County Community Health Center. He grew up with two siblings and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, after graduating from high school. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English before enrolling in the American University Graduate School of Journalism and Public Policy.

David Haffenreffer began his professional career in journalism as a video field producer for the GTE Corporation, then moved to the radio station WSUB-AM, where he served as a director as well as a news anchor for the station’s shows. Eventually, his popularity and experience led him to be hired by CNN to work as an anchor and news correspondent on the two-hour morning television show “Ahead of the Curve,” which aired in 2000, but the show was short-lived, and he left CNN.
