He is best known to the world for his roles as Matthew “Rickety Cricket” Mara, a defrocked priest, in the TV comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (2006-2018), and most recently as Boomer in the TV crime comedy-drama series “Good Girls” (2018).

Early Life 

Although he was born in Virginia, David grew up in Houston, Texas. There is little information about his parents or siblings, however, he is the cousin of singer Bruce Hornsby.

He graduated from high school in Houston and then attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he specialized in acting.

Career 

David began his career in the late 1990s with a brief role in the TV drama series “ER” (1999), and then waited two years for his next assignment, another modest appearance in the film “Pearl Harbor.” In 2003, he received his first taste of fame when he was cast as Patrick in the TV comedy-drama series “Six Feet Under,” and the following year, he was cast as Dwayne Mullet in the TV comedy series “The Mullets.” David participated in various TV shows during the next three years, including the comedy series “Center of the Universe” (2004-2005), as well as the Academy Award-nominated film “Flags of our Fathers.”
David was cast in his most prominent role to date in 2006, as Rickety Cricket in the dark comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” appearing in 19 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated series while also working as a writer and producer, writing the screenplay for 28 episodes so far. Then he created his TV show, “How to Be a Gentleman,” based on John Bridges’ book of the same name, which aired for only one season but was a success and catapulted David to fame. Encouraged by the success of his initial creation, David proceeded to employ his talents, launching another TV series called “Unsupervised” in 2012.
Despite his commitment to “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” David found time for a variety of other ventures, including acting and writing. He began contributing his voice to characters from animated series such as “Fanboy & Chum Chum,” then “Sanjay and Craig” (2013-2015), and most recently “Ben 10.” (2016-2018). In 2013, he appeared as a guest star in the TV series “Bones,”.
