Elizabeth Fearn “Finn” Carter, an actress most known for her roles in the 1990 film “Tremors” and other films throughout her career, was born on March 9, 1960, in Greenville, Mississippi, in the United States.

Finn is the first child of Hodding Carter III, a former assistant secretary of state for public affairs at the US Department of State.

Her passion for acting began while she was a student at the Massachusetts-based Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts. After graduating, she attended Skidmore College in New York before transferring to Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Professional Career

Carter started her acting career in theater, joining the Circle Repertory Company in New York. She played Effie Herrington in “Up in Saratoga” for the first time and was also cast in the revival of “Biloxi Blues,” which led to opportunities on television. Finn Carter played Sierra Esteban Reyes Montgomery in the daytime soap opera “As the World Turns,” which ran from 1985 to 1988 and was a sister program to the serial opera “Guiding Light,” in one of her earliest television appearances.

Finn Carter departed daytime television after her tenure with “As the World Turns,” then had appearances in several other television programs before making her acting debut in the 1989 film “How I Got Into College,” in which she co-starred alongside Anthony Edwards. Alongside Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, she played one of her most recognizable parts in the 1990 monster movie “Tremors,” for which she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.
