James Arness was a popular American actor who was best known for playing Marshal Matt Dillon in the TV series Gunsmoke for 20 years. He was a three-time Primetime Emmy nominee. On June 3, 2011, at the age of 88, Arness died of natural causes at his Brentwood home in Los Angeles, California.
