Floyd began her legal career as a law clerk for Associate Justice Allen E. Broussard at the California Supreme Court. She went on to work for the law firm Morrison & Foerster, where she practiced civil and criminal litigation.

After leaving Morrison & Foerster in 1993, she went to work for the San Francisco Public Defender’s office as a trial attorney. During the Clinton administration, Floyd went on to become a White House Fellow. She began her career working for First Lady Hillary Clinton and was then moved to Vice President Al Gore’s office.

Floyd began his career as a legal analyst on CBS’s KPIX Radio and Television in San Francisco, California. She became a national phenomenon after covering OJ Simpson’s double-murder trial and subsequent acquittal.

She worked for CBS News for a short time before joining ABC News in 1997 as a news correspondent for World News Tonight. She also reported for Nightline and Good Morning America during her stint at ABC, and she was a guest anchor for Early Morning News Now alongside Anderson Cooper.

In February 2005, she launched her own show on Court TV called “Jami Floyd: Best Defense,” where she explored legal and political issues with specialists in the field.

She joined MSNBC as a political and legal expert when Court TV was discontinued in 2010. From 2013 until 2016, she worked as an Al Jazeera America correspondent in New York.

Floyd is currently the host of the “All Things Considered” show on WNYC Radio.
