Joan Lynette McConchie was born on May 20, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, under the sign of Taurus, and is of white ethnicity as well as American nationality. She is the daughter of musician Jean and her pastor father, James McCohchie. Joan was born in Minnesota but spent most of her childhood in Los Angeles, California. Joan began violin lessons at the age of three, as the child of a musician schooled in violin, viola, and piano playing, under the tutelage of Los Angeles’ Baby Symphony’s founder Karl Moldrem. Over the next three years, she polished her skills, and by the age of six, she was performing as the first chair in Peter Meremblum’s California Junior Symphony Orchestra. This achievement was followed by her first on-screen appearance at the age of eight in the 1948 musical picture “Emperor Waltz.”

Joan attended numerous high schools for her education after her father joined the United States Army as a chaplain throughout her adolescence, including in Chicago, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Europe – in Munich, Germany, and Paris, France.
