Jonathan is the son of Stephen Weiss and his ex-wife Claudine, nee Gonsalves, of German-Dutch and Portuguese descent; his parents separated when he was 10 years old. Jeff Weiss, Jonathan’s uncle, is a well-known screenwriter and actor. Jonathan graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School in West Hills, California, in 2000, and went on to study history and philosophy at Harvard University. He eventually finished his studies, but not before spending a year in Scotland at St Andrews University. Years later, he received his diploma from Columbia University’s School of General Studies.
Career
Jonathan’s career began when he was six years old. In 1987, with the role of Spot in the TV series “The Adventures of Spot.” Three years later, he was cast as Greg Brady in the TV series. However, it was in 1991 that he received his first prominent role.
During this time, Jonathan had numerous additional successful roles. After “Home Improvement,” Jonathan sought other opportunities, and in 1999 he appeared in the romantic-crime drama film “Speedway Junky,” alongside Richard Barin, Jaime Bergman, and Jesse Bradford, and in 2000 he voiced Tyler Tucker in the TV series “The Wild Thornberrys.”
Jonathan’s passion for acting began to wane as the new millennium approached, and he only landed guest roles in TV shows such as “8 Simple Rules” in 2004, and “Veronica Mars” (2005), among others, in the following years. After then, he had a sabbatical until 2013, when he resurfaced as John Baker/Randy in the TV comedy series “Last Man Standing” (2013-2015), after which he remained out of the public spotlight.
