Julie Etchingham is a gifted journalist and newsreader. She rose to prominence as the host of Newsround, a children’s news program. She currently works for ITV News at Ten as a newscaster.

Early Childhood Development and Education

Etchingham was born in Leicester, Leicestershire, England, on August 21, 1969. She is of White ethnicity and is British by nationality. Her parents were both teachers and raised her in Leicester as a Roman Catholic.

Etchingham attended English Martyrs Catholic School in Leicester for elementary and high school. She then went to Newnham College at the University of Cambridge, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English. She co-presented the student program of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s ‘On the Edge,’ which was produced by Ian Peacock, during her time at the university.

Career

Etchingham began her journalism career while still a student, working for Leicester-based BBC Radio before enrolling in the BBC graduate program through the university. Etchingham quickly rose through the ranks of the BBC Midlands’ ‘Midlands Today,’ and was later assigned to host a national channel in London. She has hosted BBC TV shows such as Breaking News, Newsround, and others as a presenter.

She began working as a host and presenter for Sky News in 2002. Sky News Today, Five, and several Sky programs are among her credits. She left Sky News after years of service and joined ITV on October 31, 2007.

Etchingham was hired by ITV to co-host the news program ‘News at Ten’ with Sir Trevor McDonald. Julie Anne will host a relaunched Tonight program beginning in early 2010, according to an announcement made in October 2009, and the show will air once a week on Thursday.

Etchingham and Phillip Schofield co-hosted ITV’s coverage of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in April 2011. She and Schofield were announced as co-hosts of the BBC’s coverage of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June in April 2012.

In March 2015, it was announced that Julie Anne would chair a televised leaders debate for ITV ahead of the 2015 general election, the only leader’s debate featuring Prime Minister David Cameron to be held that year. In October 2015, News at Ten relaunched with former political editor Tom Bradby, and returned to a single newscaster format. Julie Anne remained on the show as Deputy Anchor alongside Rageh Omaar. She served as the moderator for Cameron and Farage Live: The EU Referendum and The ITV Referendum Debate in June 2016.

Many critics have praised Etchingham’s style of news presentation, and he has received numerous awards, including the Royal Television Society’s ‘Presenter of the Year’ award in 2010 and 2016, as well as the London Press Club’s ‘Broadcast Journalist of the Year’ award in April 2016.

Personal Experiences

Etchingham is a woman who has been married for a long time. She is a devout follower of the Catholic faith. She married television producer Nick Gardner. In 1997, the couple tied the knot. They met for the first time while working on the BBC’s Newsround program.

The couple has two children together. Her two sons were born in Hammersmith and Fulham. Etchingham is also involved in social work. She represents The Prince’s Trust as an ambassador. She is also the Vice President of Abigail’s Footsteps, a stillbirth charity. Julie Etchingham also serves as a Patron of Caritas Anchor House, an East London homeless charity.
