Honda signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Eredivisie team VVV-Venlo in 2008 after his time at this club, appearing in 68 matches and scoring 24 goals. In his first six months at VVV, he witnessed the club’s relegation from the first level to the second. Honda earned the nickname “Keizer Keisuke” (Emperor Keisuke) from his fans after scoring 16 goals in 36 league appearances to assist the team to regain their first-place position.
