He was born Kendrick Kang-Joh “Ken” Jeong in Detroit, Michigan, to South Korean immigrant mother Young and father Dong-Kuen Jeong on July 13, 1969. Dong, his father, was a professor at Greensboro, North Carolina’s North Carolina A&T State University. Greensboro was Ken’s home for the majority of his childhood. Ken is an American citizen.

He grew up in a family with a strong academic background, and he was encouraged to follow in their footsteps. He continued his education at Walter Hines Page High School. Ken was a member of the High IQ team, played violin in the orchestra, and was elected to the student council as a result of his outstanding performance. Ken received the Greensboro Youth of the Year award when he graduated at the age of 16. In 1990, he graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree. Ken Jeong began performing Improv in 1997 in New Orleans. Following that, he appeared in four episodes of Madtv. Following that, he appeared in single episodes of a variety of television shows, including Crossing Jordan, Two and a Half Men, and The Shield, to name a few. In 2007, he made his film debut in Knocked Up. Following his performance, Ken went on to play Leslie Chow in The Hangover, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, Despicable Me, The Hangover Part II, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, The Muppets, Despicable Me 2, Penguins of Madagascar, and Han in Advantageous, for which he is also the producer.
