Luke Walton is the current head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. He was a former American basketball player. He was a forward in the NBA for ten seasons, winning two championships with the Lakers and one as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors.

Luke Theodore Walton was born in San Diego, California on March 28, 1980, to Susan Guth and Bill Walton. Bill Walton, his father, is a well-known retired American basketball player who played for UCLA, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. Luke was named after Maurice Lucas, a teammate and close friend of Bill’s on the Portland Trail Blazers. Luke grew up in San Diego, California, with his three brothers, Nathan, Chris, and Adam.

Luke went on to the University of San Diego High School in San Diego, where he began his basketball career. In 1999, he enrolled at the University of Arizona, where he was coached by Lute Olson. His best year at Arizona was his junior year, when he averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. Luke went on to average 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game during his senior year. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and Human Development in the spring of 2003.
