Maria Shriver: Early Life and Family

Shriver was born in Chicago, Illinois, to politician Sargent Shriver and activist Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Because she is the niece of US President John F. Kennedy, she became interested in politics at a young age. She is of European identifiesherepresent.

She is also of mixed ancestry, with German, Irish, Scottish, English, Dutch, and French Huguenot forebears. Shriver received her education at Westland Middle School in Bethesda. She also graduated from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in 1973.
