Nischelle Turner, an American journalist, made history in March 2021 when she became the first black woman to lead the prestigious discussion show Entertainment Tonight.

Turner will co-host the show alongside Kevin Frazier, according to ET’s executive producer Erin Johnson. After Nancy O’ Dell, the show’s previous host, stepped down in 2019, the position has been unfilled for over a year.

In the show’s history, Turner and Frazier were the first two black anchors to work together.

Turner has won four Daytime Emmy Awards as a correspondent for the show prior to the record milestone. In 2014, she joined Entertainment Tonight.

Turner, who was born on February 11, 1975, has never spoken about her father in an interview or on social media. It could be because Jacqui Turner, the Columbia, Missouri native, was reared by her single mother.

She has an adoring relationship with her mother and her mother’s extended family, which includes her grandparents. Her diabetic mother was frequently feeding the needy in their community. Turner can never thank her enough for her humanitarian efforts.

She began her journalism studies at the University of Missouri. In the university-owned newsroom (NBC affiliate) KOMU-TV, she shaped her career by reporting, camera work, writing, and producing news.

The four-time Emmy-winning correspondent obtained her first job as a reporter at WEHT ABC in Evansville, Indiana, just three days before graduation. She had been hired at the channel by Michael Valentine.

She joined WVUE-TV FOX8 in New Orleans as a daily reporter and anchor after serving at WEHT for nearly a year and a half. Hurricane Katrina coverage was one of her reporting highlights in New Orleans.

She later joined Good Day LA and co-hosted a web series with “Extra,” a celebrity gossip show, and “Essence,” a monthly magazine for African-American women.

CNN offered her a full-time role as a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight in 2014 after noticing her good work at Extra on Essence. The rest, as they say, is history.
