Owen Daniels Bio

Owen Daniels is a former tight end in the National Football League who played for the Houston Texans from 2006 through 2013, the Baltimore Ravens in 2014, and the Denver Broncos in 2015.

Early Life, Age, Parents

Daniels, who was born on November 9, 1982, stands 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 meters) tall and weighs 245 pounds (111 kg). The 37-year-old is a Naperville, Illinois native who attended Naperville Central High School.

In high school, he began playing football and led his team to an IHSA Class 6A State Championship in 1999. Prep Football Report and PrepStar both named him an All-American. Daniels also participated in basketball and track and field.

He continued to play football while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He started as a quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers before moving on to flanker, split end, and wingback before finishing his career as a tight end.

Career

Daniels was selected 98th overall in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. From 2006 until 2013, he spent seven seasons with the Houston Texans. He had five touchdowns and 352 yards on 34 receptions in his debut season. Daniels had three touchdown grabs for 768 yards and three touchdowns in 2007. Daniels missed the majority of the 2009 season due to a torn ACL after a strong 2008 season in which he had 70 receptions for 862 yards.

On March 3, 2011, he agreed to a four-year contract deal with the Houston Texans for an estimated $22 million. Despite this, the Texans waived him on March 11, 2014. On April 3, 2014, he signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens for $1 million, scoring four touchdowns on 48 receptions for 527 yards. Likewise, on March 10, 2015, he signed a three-year agreement with the Denver Broncos for $12 million, instead of re-signing with the Ravens. Daniels was released on March 8, 2016, after one season with the Broncos, effectively ending his career.

Owen Daniels and Angela Mecca have been married since 2013. They met at a charity football event called Blondes vs. Brunettes and began dating soon after. Daniels proposed to Mecca in Ibiza during their first holiday together, and the couple married in Houston, Texas. Daniels and his wife welcomed their first child, Henry Daniels, in 2015.
