Rae Sremmurd is a hip-hop duo formed by two brothers, Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee, Aaquil Iben Shamon Brown, and Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown. Starting in 2009, the two have come a long way to achieve international fame and platinum-certified singles such as “Swang,” “No Type,” and others.

Early Life

Slim Jxmmi, the older brother, was born on December 29, 1991, and Swae Lee on June 6, 1995, in Inglewood, California; they were raised by a single mother, Bernadette, since their father, Michael, left the family when the two were quite young; to support her children, Bernadette worked in the army, which led to frequent moves, briefly living in Maryland, Mississippi, before settling in Fort Hood, Texas. While there, the two brothers began writing music and learning to dance, and it wasn’t until Swae Lee was ten years old that the two recorded their first song, which they did use Fruity Loops. Bernadette met Floyd Sullivan in Texas, and she and her new partner returned to Mississippi. Floyd became their stepfather, and Bernadette left her job in the military, so to survive, Floyd sold drugs. Fortunately, the boys stayed off the streets while also making progress in music and school.

Career

They began their music career in 2008, after meeting Jemiah Middlebrooks in Tupelo and forming the hip-hop group Dem Outta St8 Boyz. Their focus on music gradually grew, and after a few recordings and videos, they began posting their work on social media. Unfortunately, this resulted in them leaving school, which strained their relationships with their mother, who eventually kicked them out of the house.
For a time, they lived in abandoned buildings, where they used to host parties where they played their music.

They officially released their debut single, “Party Animal,” in 2010, which quickly became a local hit. With this momentum, they auditioned for the “Wild Out Wednesday” segment on BET’s show “106 & Park” in Memphis, Tennessee, and qualified. Following a string of successful performances, they were approached by Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music but were unable to reach an agreement.

The brothers had to work hard to move from an abandoned house to an $800,000 house with six bedrooms. The two are now millionaires, with a combined net worth of $6 million.

Relationship Status

According to sources, Andre was in a relationship with actress Rosario Dawson for over a year before the couple split up in November 2017. Before Rosario, he was in a relationship with Amber Rose, a singer, model, and actress.
