Rich Chigga Age & Early Life

Rich Chigga was born on September 3, 1999, into a Chinese Indonesian family in Jakarta, Indonesia. He was raised with four siblings and never received a formal education, spending most of his time helping out at his parent’s café while being homeschooled. His online career began when he was 11 years old when he discovered YouTube and Twitter, which inspired him to create video content.

Before deciding to move to Vine four years later, he made dark-comedy sketches and various videos. Rich Chigga learned English by watching YouTube videos and listening to several rappers. He was introduced to hip hop music by a friend who showed him the Macklemore song “Thrift Shop.” He then learned more about the genre and discovered many well-known artists, including Drake and Kanye West. In 2014, his interest in rap led him to write his first rap song.

Professional Career Of Rich Chigga

He didn’t want to be a musician at first, preferring to be a cinematographer, but he changed his mind as his career took off. In 2015, he released his debut single, “Living the Dream,” on YouTube. He then released his debut single, “Dat $tick,” in 2016, which became an international success. The music video for the single was later uploaded to YouTube, where it received over 80 million views, propelling it to the fourth spot on the Bubbling Under R&B / Hip-Hop Singles chart. He followed it up with two more singles, “Who That Be” and “Seventeen,” which were available on iTunes and SoundCloud.

Brian would embark on his first tour in 2017, before releasing the single “Gospel” with Keith Ape and XXXTentacion. At the 4th Indonesian Choice Awards, he was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Shortly after, he announced the release of his debut album “Amen” in February 2018, making him the first Asian to top the iTunes Hip Hop charts. After releasing several collaborative works, he decided to officially change his stage name from Rich Chigga to Brian with the release of the song “See Me.”

According to him, his name caused a lot of controversies, and he didn’t think about it when he first chose the name. A friend first suggested it to him, and he later regretted it. He said it was the right thing to do to change his name to Rich Brian, and he was overjoyed to do it.
