Known for his roles as ‘Doc’ on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and as Nels Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, American actor Richard Bull rose to fame in both television and film. On April 13, 1948, Richard Bull and Barbara Collentine were united in marriage.

Childhood and Schooling

He was born on the 26th of June in Zion, Illinois, to Richard Bull and Mary Bull (his parents). Ralph William Bull and Pearl Smith Bull were the proud parents of this boy. He is of European descent and is a US citizen by birth.

Bull’s interest in performing began as a child, and he went on to become a well-known theater and television actor.

The Godman Theatre in Chicago served as a launching pad for Richard Bull’s professional career. As Lawson, he made his acting debut in the television film Harrigan and Son. It wasn’t long after that he made appearances on television shows and films like Ths Stalking Moon, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Gomer, Columbo and Hill Street Blues.

His role as The Doctor on the television series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea brought him enormous renown and glowing acclaim.

The fact that Richard appeared in more than a hundred television shows and films during his acting career meant that he was well-paid. High Plains Drifter, one of his most popular television movies, earned $15,700,000.

Bulls had an estimated $8 million in assets at the time of his death.

Life at Home

On April 13, 1948, Richard Bull and Barbara Collentine were united in marriage. The couple had been married for 39 years until Bull, who was then 89, passed away on February 3, 2014.

His illness was pneumonia, and he passed away in California while attending the Motion Picture Television Fund school.

Alison Arngrim, Bull’s Little House co-star, spoke out about his death:

Everyone liked him, and I’ve received condolences in six different languages on my Facebook page because of it.

Dean Butler, Bull’s other longtime buddy, paid tribute to the man he once knew.

To quote the late Richard Gere, “He always made it appear so easy.” Richard was a very giving, soft-spoken actor with a remarkable passion for work.

Even after his death, no details about his funeral were made public.
