Lowe is a Connecticut native and the son of Davis Lowe, a trial lawyer, and Barbara Lynn, a schoolteacher. His parents divorced when he was a child, and he and his brother Chad Lowe were raised by his mother in California. Lowe attended Oakwood Junior High School and Santa Monica High School in Dayton, Ohio. Lowe began his career as a young performer on local television and in theaters.
