Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997, the fourth of four children. Shannon Biles, her biological mother, was unable to care for her or her siblings and placed them in foster care. Simone’s maternal grandmother, Nellie Biles, began caring for her after three years and eventually adopted Simone and her sister Andria. Simone grew up in a Catholic household in Spring, Texas.
How The Journey Started
When she was six years old, she met a gymnastics instructor on a daycare field trip. Because of her talent, the instructor suggested she pursue gymnastics. She started training like a pro at the age of eight. Her debut competition was at the American Classic in Houston in 2011. At the American Classic, she finished third in the all-around competition.
She converted to homeschooling in 2012 to enhance the time available for training, which freed up 20 to 32 hours each week. She slowly but surely managed to burst into the spotlight with continued triumphs in world championships under the motto “You have to make your luck by practicing, training, and conditioning.”
Achievements and Awards
In 2016, she won her first Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro. By the time she entered, she was already a superstar, with all eyes on her performance. And she did not let me down! She took gold in all-around, vault, team, and floor, and bronze in the beam.
