Early childhood development and education
Skylar Diggins was born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 2, 1990. Diggins is the stepdaughter of Sarah Diggins and Maurice Scott, and the daughter of Tige Diggins and Renee Scott.
Tige, Destyn, and Maurice are Diggins’ three younger brothers, while Hanneaf is his younger sister. Diggins grew up playing softball and was very interested in sports.
Diggins enrolled in South Bend, Indiana’s Washington High School. At Washington High School, she was a four-year starter and three-year captain.
Career
Diggins’ career began when she began playing for her high school, and she concluded with 2,790 points, the third best female scoring total in Indiana history, averaging 25.9 points per game.
She coached the Panthers to state championship games throughout that period, including Washington’s title-winning season in 2007.
Diggins has twice been named the Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She was also recognized as a WBCA All-American and a McDonald’s All-American.
Diggins became the fourth Indiana native to join the Irish team in 2009-2010 as a freshman after graduating from high school. She was one of three Miss Basketball awardees on the 2009-2010 Notre Dame roster. She also set records for thefts, free throws attempted, and made free throws.
Diggins’ professional career began with the Tulsa Shock, who selected her third overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft. She was chosen to the All-Rookie Team after her perfect game score.
In the 2014 WNBA season, she had a breakout year and was chosen a WNBA all-star for the first time. Diggins tore his ACL with 44 seconds left in a regular-season game on June 28, 2015.
