Her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, is a chemical distributor and former state-level cricketer, while her mother, Smita Mandhana, is a housewife who manages Smriti’s diet and workout program. Her brother Shravan is also a Ranji Trophy player at the state level. She finished her schooling in Sangli, Maharashtra. She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Chintaman Rao College of Commerce in Sangli, Maharashtra.

She signed up to play cricket for enjoyment at the age of nine, while accompanying her brother to state selection. Despite being a right-hander, she prefers to bat from the left side. Within 2-3 years, she was playing at the district level. At the age of 11, she was chosen to represent Maharashtra in the Under-19 Trophy.

Four years later, she was selected for the Maharashtra senior squad, when she played a historic inning against Gujarat. Following her exceptional accomplishment, she was selected to play for the International women’s Indian cricket team.

During her domestic career, she became the first woman in history to achieve a double century in an ODI. She struck an undefeated 224 runs off 154 balls in the West Zone Under-19 competition against Gujarat.

During the women’s challenger trophy in 2016, Mandhana was the tournament’s best scorer, helping her team India blue win the trophy. In 2016, she was chosen to play for the Brisbane league in the Women’s Big Bash League. She and Harmanpreet Kaur were the first two Indian women to participate in the league. In 2018, she became the first Indian woman to participate in the Kia Super League.
