Wally Szczerbiak is an American retired basketball player who now works as a color analyst for the MSG Network’s New York Knicks. He spent ten seasons in the NBA, playing for four different clubs.

Wally Szczerbiak was born in Madrid, Spain, on March 5, 1977, to Marilyn and Walt Szczerbiak, a well-known former ABA player. He guided Real Madrid to three straight European League Championships. Wally, his parents, and two siblings, Will and Wendy, relocated to Long Island and began living there.

Szczerbiak started playing basketball when he was in high school in Cold Spring Harbor. Wally went on to average 36.6 points per game and 15.9 rebounds per game in the 1994-1995 seasons. During his time there, he has voted the Richard Spangler Award winner for outstanding boys’ basketball player in Nassau County.

In 1995, Wally enrolled at Miami University in Ohio. He began his basketball career with the Redhawks. During his time there, Wally averaged 8.0 and 12.8 points per game in the first two seasons. Wally averaged 24.2 points per game as a senior.
After accumulating a total of 1847 points, he was named Miami University’s second all-time leading scorer in 1999. Wally earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University’s Richard T. Farmer School of Business.

He declared his readiness to be drafted in the 1999 NBA Draft 1999. As a result, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected him as the 6th overall choice in the first round. As a result, he began playing forward for the Timberwolves, and on April 13, 2003, he tied one of the team’s records with 44 points.

He appeared in 74 games during the 2008-2009 season, averaging 7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. However, on November 5, 2009, Wally stated that he will undergo a third knee operation, which would terminate his career.

He went on to become a basketball analyst for CBS College Sports and is now a New York Knicks analyst for MSG Network.
