Walter Szczerbiak Sr. was born in Hamburg, West Germany, on August 21, 1949. While he was still a child, his family relocated to the United States, where he began his basketball career.

Career

Walter went on to Saint Casimir High School, where he began playing basketball ferociously and then to George Washington University in 1967, where he continued the same passion. In college, he continued to play basketball until 1971. He went on to say that he was ready to be drafted in the NBA Draft in 1871. As a result, the Phoenix Suns selected him in the fourth round as the 65th overall pick. The Dallas Chaparrals selected him in the 1971 ABA Draft. Walter, on the other hand, did not sign with the Phoenix Suns or the Dallas Chaparrals. Walter also played in the ABA for the Pittsburgh Condors during the 1971-72 season.

He went on to play for the Kentucky Colonels after being selected in the Condors dispersal draft, but he was cut from the team’s roster. He went on to compete in a variety of championships, winning many of them, including the Spanish and European leagues. Walter went on to win three Euroleague titles while playing for Real Madrid in the Spanish league in 1974, 1978, and 1980. Walter went on to score 47 points in a match against Barcelona. After two years, he set the record for the most points scored in a league game with 65 against Breogan. Walter went on to win the FIBA Intercontinental Cup three times with Real Madrid, in 1976, 1977, and 1978. Walter was named MVP of the 1977 edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

Personal Life

Walter had three children with Marilyn: Wally Sacaerbiak, Will Szczerbiak, and Wendy Szczerbiak. There have been no issues in the couple’s marriage so far. They have never divorced or had any extramarital affairs. Wally, their eldest child, was a professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA. In 2002, he was also named to the NBA All-Star team. Wendy is known to have competed in the women’s basketball tournament in 2006-2007.
