He turned down scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Auburn, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee in favor of Florida. Against the Ole Miss Rebels, he completed 24-of-29 passes for 271 yards and four passing touchdowns, which was the greatest outing of his young career. He tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2015, and his suspension was extended by a year.
In April 2016, he made a move to West Virginia University, although he was required to sit out the 2016 campaign due to NCAA transfer regulations.
